Enhancing Stability through Community Resilience Project in South Darfur

Khartoum: Oubai AHMAD

CDF Sub-office in South Darfur runs Enhancing Stability through Community Resilience Project in Gereida and Mershing Localities. The project is based on the Technical Agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture, ZOA and Child Development Foundation (CDF) in South Darfur, and the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ZOA and Child Development (CDF).

Mershing Project Coordinator in South Darfur, Mohammed Abbakar said that the project’s first phase activities included a training of crop protection committees along the migratory routes and market survey while the second phase included the activities of selecting and training of agricultural committees and youth orientation on project ideas.

He mentioned that Crop protection committees along the migratory routes were formed by ZAO in the framework of the joint cooperation between the two organizations. The committees include pastoralists and farmers in order to protect crops and prevent tensions that occur during the harvest season.

Abbakar thanks all those who contributed to the success of this work, particularly ZOA for their continuous support in guiding and providing their long experience in this field, helping in the preparations phase at community level and the formation of crop protection committees before CDF starts carrying out the implementation of activities agreed upon. He also thanks the official authorities of the Humanitarian Aid Commission in South Darfur and other Government agencies at the state and local levels and “Nazirs”, “Omdas”, “Sheikhs” and grassroots committees for their cooperation and facilitation of the project implementation and success.
