Birth registration campaign launches in Northern State from Al-Khannag, Dongola

Pupils watch an awareness drama about birth registration in Al-Khannag, Dongola locality

We have launched a birth registration campaign in Northern State, because a birth certificate is the first step in protecting a child and the key to their right to education, health care and full citizenship.

The campaign began in Al-Khannag, Dongola locality, with awareness activities that drew in local families and children. It covers the localities of Dongola, Merowe and Halfa.

We are running the campaign in partnership with the General Directorate of Social Affairs, in coordination with the Council for Child Welfare, Al-Atash Organization for Peace and Development and the General Directorate of Civil Registry, with support and funding from UNICEF.

Together with our partners, we are working to remove the obstacles families face, so that no child in these localities is left without a legal identity to protect them. To learn more about our child protection work, visit our Programmes page.
